It was apparent that advocacy efforts through the years did not fall on deaf ears. We frequently include advocacy statements and research in our concert programs. Some of our large district-wide festival events included slide show presentations with advocacy information, and some of the available pubic service announcements played over the PA prior to the beginning of the concert. This information was used by parents and students in their presentations to the Board.
It was certainly gratifying to know that people have been paying attention to these various efforts. It also reminds us that advocacy needs to be on-going and repetitive. Waiting until disaster strikes is TOO LATE!
It is too early to tell if we will be able to get any positions back, but I am sure that the Board was impressed by the community's response to the reductions and the priority that they put on a quality music education.
